What if social media had no feed?

A feed is a decision someone else makes about your attention. Take it away and something unexpected comes back.

Waiting at a bus stop at dusk

Most social apps are built around a feed: a column that never ends, ordered by a system that learns what keeps you there. It is so familiar we rarely ask what it is for.

The feed solves a business problem. It turns attention into inventory. Every scroll is another slot to fill.

What a feed replaces

Before feeds, you went to see something specific: a friend’s photos, a letter, a call. The thing ended, and you went back to your day.

A feed removes the ending. It replaces “I saw it” with “there is always more”.

A feed removes the ending.

An app that runs out

Raam has no feed. Once a day, one moment arrives from one stranger. You watch it, perhaps send an Echo, and then there is nothing left to look at.

It sounds like less. But one moment you actually watched can stay with you longer than a hundred you scrolled past.
